Borie fasteners Huck Bolt Rivet riveting solutions

 

A huck bolt is a type of fastener commonly used in construction and manufacturing industries. It is a two-piece fastening system that consists of a pin and a collar. The pin, also known as magna grip rivets or ring groove rivets, has a pre-installed washer and a threaded end. The collar, called a huck collar or lock bolt collar, is placed over the pin during installation. When the pin is inserted into the pre-drilled hole and the collar is pulled, the pin is pulled into the collar, creating a strong, reliable, and permanent joint. Huck bolts are known for their high shear and tensile strength, making them ideal for applications requiring a secure and durable fastening solution.

How Does Huck Bolt Work?

  1. Prepare the materials and tools.
  2. Align the parts to be joined.
  3. Insert the huck bolt into the pre-drilled hole.
  4. Place the collar onto the bolt shank.
  5. Insert the installation tool into the bolt assembly.
  6. Apply pressure to the installation tool.
  7. Continue applying pressure until the collar is fully swaged onto the bolt.
  8. Release the pressure from the installation tool.
  9. Check the bolt and collar for proper installation.
  10. Repeat the process for any additional huck bolts needed.

 

  • The huck bolt consists of two parts: a pin and a collar.
  • The pin, which has a thread on one end, is inserted through the drilled holes of the materials being joined.
  • The collar is then placed on the exposed end of the pin.
  • A hydraulic tool is used to apply pressure to the collar, causing it to deform and create a clamping force.
  • As the collar deforms, it locks the pin in place between the materials, creating a strong and secure joint.
  • The excess pin length is typically removed, leaving a flush and finished appearance.
  • The resulting huck bolt joint has excellent shear and tensile strength, making it suitable for various applications.
